Indigenous Prayers

Dadirri is the practice of deep listening. It allows you to be still and connect. Modern day deep listening is termed mindfulness. It allows you to notice and connect with your self or spirit and surroundings. Dadirri connects to the indigenous sense of belonging to the land.

The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council (NATSICC) is the peak advisory body to the Australian Catholic Bishops on issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholics. The council was founded in 1992 and the Secretariat is based in Adelaide.

This prayer comes from the Dhanggati people in the Macleay Valley of New South Wales. Ngabu means elder sister and Bingayi means elder brother thus: Sisters and Brothers. This prayer asks God to help people listen to the Land. Image Credits: Stephen McCleod
